Coalport Armorial Plate with Royal commission mark, c. 1845.
Gilded and finely decorated armorial plate in the Sèvres style with three heraldic figures in the center and intricately painted birds in the gilded panels. The birds were likely the work of J. Randall, famous Coalport painter known for his birds. The mark on the back refers to Queen Adelaide (1792-1849), consort to King William the IV of Great Britain and Ireland, who reigned from 1830 until his death in 1837. The heraldic images in the center of the plate consist of an Earl’s coronet, a group of Ostrich feathers in a crown, and an eagle. 9 ¼” diameter. |
