The Chinese export plate in the Meissen style, c. 1745, is of exceptional quality, with a polychrome decorated panel depicting a harbor scene in a cartouche surrounded by gilded and red scrollwork. There are four vignettes on the rim, two en grisaille and two en camaïeu rose. The decoration is heavily influenced by the work of early Meissen artist, Johann Gregor Höroldt who is most famous for his chinoiserie harbor scenes framed in gold cartouches. He introduced these harbor scenes to Meissen porcelain around 1725, and they were subsequently copied in China for export back to Europe.

Minor rim fritting and wear to gilding, but otherwise excellent condition.

9” diameter.
